This public talk by Sara Goldrick-Rab, "Paying the Price: College Costs, Financial Aid, and the Betrayal of the American Dream," will take place from 1-2:30 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017, in the UMass Campus Center, Room 917.
The talk draws on Goldrick-Rab's latest book by the same name.
Goldrick-Rab is a professor of higher education policy and sociology at Temple University. She also founded the Wisconsin HOPE Lab, which is working to find ways to make college more affordable.
She is the recipient of a William T. Grant Foundation Faculty Scholar Award and an American Educational Research Association Early Career Award.
In 2016, POLITICO magazine named Goldrick-Rab one of the top 50 people shaping American politics.
Goldrick-Rab's work has been featured on The Daily Show with Trevor Nash, CSPAN's Book TV, and in the New York Review of Books.
The talk is being organized by the College of Education. Other co-sponsors in addition to the School of Public Policy are the Department of Sociology and the Department of Economics.
The event is free and open to the public. Light beverages and desserts will be available.
