Professor Boutcher is CPPA’s newest faculty member, jointly joining the Department of Sociology and CPPA in the fall of 2010. His doctoral dissertation examined the effects of institutionalized pro bono policies in large law firms on the actual practice of pro bono by firm lawyers. Findings from this research appear in “From Policy to Practice: Assessing the Effect of Large Firm Pro Bono Structure on Commitment,” forthcoming in Studies in Law, Politics and Society. He also studies social movements and has conducted research on low-wage worker organizing campaigns and the mobilization of lesbian and gay rights activists. Most recently he served as a Research Fellow at Georgetown University’s Center for the Study of the Legal Profession.
