Research Interests: race and class disparities in health outcomes; comparative health policies

Dean Robinson is a specialist on health care disparities by race and class. A grant from the Marion and Jasper Whiting Foundation is supporting his current research on health policies in Australia, New Zealand, and the United States and how they enhance or diminish disparities in health outcomes. From 2001-2003, Robinson had a W.K. Kellogg fellowship at the Harvard School of Public Health that enabled him to investigate competing causal interpretations of racial disparities in health. He is the co-author of “Health Disparities by Race and Class: Why Both Matter” (Health Affairs). Prior to his interest in health care policy, Robinson focused on black politics in the U.S., with books that included The Black Family and U.S. Social Policy and Black Nationalism in American Politics and Thought.
