John Strandlund's research specializes in the theory and experimental evaluation of environmental and natural resource management. His work on the design of environmental policies has led to two related strands of research on pollution controls, one on price-based approaches and another on voluntary compliance. Stranlund also examines local governance of communal natural resources in the developing world and maintains a collaborative research partnership with Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Columbia. His research has appeared in a wide range of publications, including the Journal of Applied Economics, Economic Inquiry, Environmental and Resource Economics, and the Handbook of Experimental Economics and the Environment.
