As the Center's director, Lee Badgett provides the vision and leadership — in close collaboration with faculty, students, staff, the University and external policy-related constituents (both academic and applied) — necessary for continued growth and innovation. Lee is a professor of economics at UMass Amherst and is also research director at the Williams Institute at UCLA's School of Law.

Jacqueline Bishop maintains the Center’s operating funds, grant funded research, alumni gifts, and foundation funding. She serves as the budget liaison between CPPA and colleagues throughout the Amherst campus, vendors, and clients. She also provides logistical support for seminars, colloquium series, and other special events. Jackie holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from UMass and spent many years as a government banking and public finance officer, managing relationships with municipalities throughout Massachusetts.

Kathy Colón works closely with students, staff and faculty to provide assistance on CPPA daily operations and management. For more than 20 years, Kathy has provided administrative assistance in a variety of office settings, including 11 years at the University of Massachusetts.

Michal Lumsden is responsible for the Center’s external communications, including e-bulletins, newsletters and other printed materials, and the website. Michal is a UMass alum and later earned a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University. Before returning to UMass as a staff member, Michal worked as a daily newspaper reporter and a freelance writer and editor. She has also worked with food and farming organizations throughout Massachusetts.

As CPPA’s acting director, Katie McDermott collaborates with the center’s faculty, students and staff to ensure that CPPA has a successful 15th year and continues to thrive well into the future. She is also the public face of CPPA with the university’s administration and with members of the wider community. Katie has served as a faculty member of CPPA and the College of Education since she came to UMass Amherst in 1999.

Susan Newton assists with planning and fundraising for CPPA and STS research initiatives. Susan also coordinates several of the Center's many special projects and iniatives. Susan received her doctorate in sociology from Purdue University, and has worked previously in grants administration at Amherst College and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Satu Zoller oversees the administration of many aspects of CPPA's graduate program and serves as a student adviser. She received a master's degree in Public Affairs with a concentration in economic development from the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute, University of Minnesota. She previously worked in both the government and nonprofit sectors, including the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, Minnesota Planning (a state agency), and for a community-based nonprofit organization in Cusco, Peru.
